Welcome to the First Presbyterian Church of Commerce

Presbyterian Women

At FPC-Commerce there is a very active Presbyterian Women's group. The Circle meets for fellowship and Bible study on the 2nd Monday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  Horizons Bible Study materials are the basis for each year’s study. Guests are always welcome.

In addition to Bible study, the Presbyterian Women’s organization promotes fellowship among the women of the congregation by hosting a fall luncheon, usually in September, and an additional luncheon in May each year. Other special events are also planned. Recent ones include “Progressive Dinners,” a trip to the Dallas Museum of Art, a “Book-Share” evening, and a field trip to explore the nearby town of Paris, Texas. Plans for excursions to other area towns are already being discussed. Guests are always welcome at any of these events.

Members of our PW are active in service to our church and to our community. Many volunteer at the Bargain Box, a resale venue located on the downtown Commerce square. All proceeds from sales are used for improvements at our local hospital. Some ladies also volunteer at the hospital assisting by answering the phone at the reception desk. Others volunteer at the Northeast Texas Children’s Museum located on the campus of TAMU-Commerce and at the Commerce Food Pantry which is housed at FPC-Commerce. PW members also sew fleece baby caps for the nursery at the Hunt Memorial Medical Center in Greenville. Approximately 100 babies are born there each month and each one receives a special cap.

Supporting mission projects through Grace Presbytery PW is also important to our local group. These include the Itasca Children’s Home, through donations to Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services, the Beth-El Farmworker Ministry in Florida, the Roma Development Project to help provide early educational opportunities for Romani children in the Ukraine, and donations to support a mission worker from Grace Presbytery who is currently serving in South Sudan.

The local PW organization is also active in presbytery-wide events and recently hosted an area spring meeting at FPC-Commerce. Attending Grace Presbytery PW events to connect with other Presbyterian Women has been and continues to be a norm for our group.

This creed is our guide: Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study, to support the mission of the church worldwide, to work for justice and peace, and to build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.

To become a supporter of FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH and help us promote happiness, harmony, and peace on Earth, you can make a donation. We accept help from individuals and corporate entities. You may leave a donation in one of our donation boxes, located in the lobby of each of our offices, or participate in our corporate sponsorship program.
